No, Obama’s presidency wasn’t “scandal free”

Barrack Obama

Almost a year into his presidency, Trump is still facing heat for his alleged collusion with the Russians during his campaign. Amid the controversy, the left has made one thing clear about Obama. They want him back. Like a girl in high school, they just can’t seem to stop crying about their breakup with their beloved Barack. They look back at how happy they were when they were together and seem to have forgotten about the bad times…

Now, Trump’s no angel, but Obama isn’t either. There’s no shortage of liberals proudly making claims like the one in the tweet above. The problem is, they’re just not true. It appears that the left is suffering from some form of amnesia (perhaps from the blow they took to the head on election day) that has allowed them to forget about the list of scandals that occurred during Obama’s presidency. The more likely reason for the left’s lack of memory has to do with one of Obama’s branches of government at the time, the mainstream media. They did a fantastic job of downplaying every single one of Obama’s scandals in order to secure his legacy, and it seems to have worked.

Here’s a list of Obama’s top six major scandals:

1. IRS Targeting Scandal

Remember that one time when the IRS and other federal agencies abused their power to target and harass Obama’s political enemies and then lied about doing so? That’s illegal by the way, and they pretty much got away with it thanks to Obama’s DOJ and Attorney General.

2. Obamacare Lies

There’s no doubt that the Obamacare rollout was a tremendous disaster. From skyrocketing premiums to the epic failure of the HealthCare.gov website, it’s clear that the people who run Obamacare are the same people who run the DMV.

Regardless, Obama did some pretty scandalous things to get his bill passed. One of which includes lying to the American people dozens of times. Shocker right? He broke many of his promises, but the most notable one was that: “If you like your health plan, you can keep it.” This ended up being Politifact‘s “Lie of the Year” in 2013. As it turns out, his other promise that: “If you like your doctor, you can keep him,” was also untrue. It should come as no surprise then, that most Americans didn’t save up to $2,500 on insurance premiums, (like he promised,) either.

3. DOJ Spying

Months before the presidential election of 2012, the Obama administration had been secretly spying on more than twenty reporters from the Associated Press and Fox News, without explanation. Obama’s DOJ labeled Fox News reporter, James Rosen as a “criminal co-conspirator” under the Espionage Act of 1917 so they could gain access to his personal emails and phone records. Even the hyper-liberal New York Times wrote:

“With the decision to label a Fox News television reporter a possible ‘co-conspirator’ in a criminal investigation of a news leak, the Obama administration has moved beyond protecting government secrets to threatening fundamental freedoms of the press to gather news.”

The Associated Press claimed these acts were a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” on press freedom, and the AP’s CEO commented:

“These records potentially reveal communications with confidential sources across all of the newsgathering activities undertaken by the AP during a two-month period, provide a road map to AP’s newsgathering operations and disclose information about AP’s activities and operations that the government has no conceivable right to know.” -Gary Pruitt

4. Fast and Furious Gun Walking

In this scandal, the Obama administration’s oversaw the funneling of about 2,000 guns to Mexican drug lords. Seriously. The ATF claimed it was a sting operation, and documents later claim that they also used it as a campaign to push for additional gun control measures. Clearly, this operation backfired. Many of the guns were lost and were used in the deaths of dozens of people, including two American law enforcement officers.

Obama’s Attorney General was found in contempt of Congress after he failed to provide related documents to the House Oversight Committee. This was the first time in the history of the United States that a sitting member of a president’s cabinet was held in contempt of Congress. Some consider this a scandal in itself.

 5. Benghazi

Yes, Hillary Clinton finds a way to rear her ugly head in this list of scandals. That’s mostly because when Hillary’s comes around, you can be sure that a scandal will follow her closely.

Two months before presidential the election of 2012, an attack took place on a U.S diplomatic compound in Libya. Four Americans, including an Ambassador, were killed on the anniversary of 9/11. In the weeks before the attack, other countries withdrew their diplomatic presence from the increasingly hostile region. At the time, Mrs. Clinton was Secretary of State under Obama. She knew that the Americans were in danger, but forced them to stay in the hostile region inside a poorly secured compound. Even in the final moments of the Ambassador’s life, Mrs. Clinton ignored several of his requests for additional security. When later questioned by a Senate panel about the cause of the attack, she infamously said: “What difference at this point does it make?” So yes, she is Satan.

After the news of the attack came out, the Obama administration and Mrs. Clinton made several false claims that the attack was a protest due to the reaction of an unrelated anti-muslim film.

“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior, along with the protest that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday, as a response to inflammatory material posted on the internet.” –Hillary Clinton

They denied that it was a terrorist attack even though the attack occurred on the anniversary of 9/11… The Obama administration eventually admitted that it wasn’t a protest but a premeditated terrorist attack that took the lives of the four Americans in Benghazi. Mrs. Clinton’s emails later proved that she knew the attack was an act of terrorism the whole time.

6. The Clinton Emails

During the investigation of the Benghazi attack, it became apparent that Hillary Clinton had been using a private email server, (rather than official State Department email accounts which are secured by federal servers,) before, during, and after her position as Secretary of State. She did this to evade ordinary government oversight. She used her private email server exclusively to conduct official business, transmit classified material, and communicate with the president.

Obama claimed that he learned about Hillary Clinton’s private email server at “the same time everybody else learned it, through news reports.” But that was a lie. The president had exchanged emails with Clinton using a fake name because of Clinton’s use of a private server. The FBI conducted an investigation to determine if Mrs. Clinton was guilty of violating laws related to the proper handling of classified information. During her testimony to the House Benghazi committee, she claimed that:

“There was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received.” -Hillary Clinton

She was lying. When the investigation was completed, FBI director James Comey concluded that Clinton had been “extremely careless,” but did not push prosecution. Why? Because the president was guilty as well. She couldn’t be proven guilty without also proving the president guilty. So there was a conflict of interest in her prosecution. This was later confirmed by the release of a bombshell WikiLeaks email between Clinton’s campaign manager and her attorney.

Other Controversies

There were many other controversies throughout the duration of Obama’s presidency. These include The Iran Nuke Deal, Solyndra, NSA Spying Scandal, Drone Strike controversy, Guantanamo Bay, and the Refusal to prosecute the New Black Panthers. The six scandals listed above were his most controversial. Obama and the mainstream media have claimed that his presidency was “scandal-free,” but that simply is “Fake News.” Perhaps the mainstream media’s unwillingness to adequately report on these topics should be considered a scandal as well.
